In 1980,some humanitarians of Kunnamkulam under the leadership of Retd. Major Late A.V Thomas and Late C.V Paul conceived the idea of helping poor children especially handicapped in all sense, in the field of education, Vocational training, Social, Cultural and Economic status, and founded the organization called 'Bala Sahaya Samithi' with one Patron member and 18 Life members. They registered this organization under the charitable societies Act on 26.3.1980 with the Reg.No:77/80.

After a survey conducted by the samithi, understood the fact that Mental Retardation is the most affected field in the handicapped section, without any rehabilitation process. At first, samithi conducted a free Identification Medical Camp for the benefit of all mentally retarded children of Trichur Dist. After collecting the opinion of the parents of these destitutes, samithi started 3 Normalisation Centres at three different places with 40 mentally handicapped children and 3 Teaching Assistance at free of cost in the name of "Normalisation Centre for the Mentally Retarded Children". Gradually samithi found that it is very difficult to manage these schools at different places. Lack of funds and the decrease of enthusiasm & interest of parents and public restrained the growth of these centres.So for efficient management,these institutions were combined into an old building that was offered by Kristheeya Susrusha Alayam, another charitable society.

• 1980: Land donated to Bala Sahaya Samiti and building construction started by founding leaders Late Major A V Thomas and Late Mr C V Paul. The foundation was sponsored by Mr Peter C Love (UK)
• 1995: Kolady Thavu Mathew block was inaugurated, sponsored by Prof. V. K M John
• 2007: Silver Jubilee memorial was inaugurated by Dr T Abby David, Psychologist and counselor
• 2010: Class rooms inaugurated, sponsored by Mr George C Paul
• 2016: Office block was inaugurated by Sri C N Balakrishnan, Minister of Cooperation, Govt. of Kerala.
• 2018: K P Abdul Hameed Haji memorial block was inaugurated by Shri. Ommen Chandy Former chief Minister of Kerala on 10th March, 2018
